Clear information about advance payment, balance settlement and deposit holds
When you complete a booking through our platform, the payment process unfolds in two stages. You pay an advance online by card at the time of confirmation. This advance secures your reservation and is processed immediately through our secure payment gateway. The remaining balance is settled directly with the supplier when you collect the vehicle on the island.
The booking voucher states the exact split between the advance and the balance. It also specifies the accepted payment methods for the balance and whether the supplier requires a credit card or accepts debit cards as well. Every supplier sets their own requirements, and these are made clear before you confirm the booking.
The advance is non-refundable unless the booking includes a free cancellation option and you cancel within the permitted window. The balance is paid on arrival, and the supplier issues a separate receipt for that portion.
The advance payment online accepts Visa, Mastercard and American Express. The card must belong to the person making the booking and must have sufficient funds or credit limit to cover the amount.
At the supplier desk, the majority of offers require a credit card in the main driver's name for the deposit hold. A minority of offers accept debit cards. The booking voucher specifies which cards the supplier accepts before you confirm. If the voucher states that a credit card is required, a debit card will not be accepted at the desk, and the booking may be refused without refund.
Prepaid cards and virtual cards are generally not accepted for deposit holds because the supplier cannot place a temporary hold on funds. The card presented at the desk must be a physical card with an embossed or printed name matching the driver's licence.
Some suppliers accept cards issued outside the European Union, while others do not. The voucher clarifies this point. If you hold a non-EU card and the supplier does not accept it, you will need to arrange an alternative before arrival.
A deposit is a temporary hold placed on your card by the supplier. It is not a charge. The funds remain in your account, but they are blocked and unavailable for other transactions until the hold is released. The supplier places the hold as security against damage, fuel charges, traffic fines or contract violations.
The amount of the deposit and the method of holding it are stated in the booking voucher. The hold is placed when you collect the vehicle and released when you return it in the agreed condition with a full fuel tank and no outstanding charges. The release can take between one and fourteen days depending on your card issuer. The supplier does not control this timeline.
If there is damage, missing fuel or a fine, the supplier will charge the relevant amount against the deposit. They will provide an itemised invoice. Any remaining balance is released. If the cost exceeds the deposit, you are liable for the difference, and the supplier will request payment before you leave the desk.
A deposit hold is entirely separate from the excess or franchise stated in the terms. The excess is the maximum amount you are liable for after an incident. The deposit is the security held on your card. They are different figures serving different purposes, and one does not replace the other.
Every detail about payment and deposits is written in the booking voucher you receive after confirmation. The voucher states the advance amount, the balance amount, the accepted payment methods, the deposit amount, whether a credit card is mandatory, and any restrictions on card issuers or types.
You receive the voucher by email immediately after booking. It is also available in your account on our platform. Read it carefully before you travel. If any detail is unclear, contact us through the contact page, and we will clarify it with the supplier.
The voucher is the binding document. The supplier will follow what is written there. If you arrive without the required card type or without sufficient funds for the deposit hold, the supplier may refuse to release the vehicle, and no refund will be issued. Preparing in advance avoids this outcome.
